Licensing means the design answers to somebody besides marketing. Loads, mounting, materials, and fit all get checked against a standard that doesn't care how good the renders look.
Modular is the right approach for a pickup because nobody's trips are identical. Some weekends you need cargo, some you need a bedroom, some you need both and a fridge. A shell that reconfigures beats three vehicles you can't afford.
