What New Atlas covered
New Atlas ran a headline suggesting the Jeep-licensed ADDAX camper might be tougher than the Wrangler dragging it around. Bold claim. We'd like the record to show we didn't start it.
C.C. Weiss looks at the trailer as a small camper built for genuinely rough country instead of a gravel pull-through. The frame, the suspension travel, the articulating hitch, the clearance — all of it exists so the trailer can follow a Wrangler through the sketchy bit rather than turning your trip into an out-and-back. That's the whole design brief. If a trailer makes you pick easier lines, it's cargo, not gear.
Tiny campers usually get graded on cuteness. This one gets graded on whether it comes home in one piece. Ours do. Bust it if you can — plenty have tried, and we keep hearing about the trips instead of the repairs.
Go see what the Basecamp frame and hitch are made of, or start building the version you'd send down that trail. Same bones, more years of trail feedback welded into every joint, and still no interest in being the weak link behind your rig.
